Chuck Munns to Retire; Garry Flowers Named President and CEO
IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 31, 2009--
Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced today that it has made a
leadership change at Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS), LLC, a
Fluor-led team that is in charge of the management and operating (M&O)
contract at the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site near Aiken,
S.C. Charles E. Munns, president and CEO of SRNS, announced that he has
made the decision to retire which necessitates the change.
Garry W. Flowers, group executive for Fluor’s Construction Services,
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Corporate Security, as well as
a member of the company’s senior management team, will become the
president and CEO of SRNS. The transition will begin immediately.
Fluor’s group executive and current SRNS chairman, John L. Hopkins,
said, “Since winning the M&O contract just over a year ago, the SRNS
team has achieved many important milestones under Chuck Munns’
leadership. He was the key leader of our winning team and has led a
seamless transition at the Site. Chuck has honored his commitment to
SRNS and we appreciate his leadership, energy and commitment to get the
team to this point.”
Since taking over the SRS M&O contract on August 1, 2008, the SRNS team
has:
-
Completed seamless transition;
-
Completed all tritium shipments;
-
Made the H Canyon DSA 3009 upgrade;
-
Performed the 1000th shipment of transuranic waste; and
-
Won numerous safety awards.
“Our relationship with DOE is a vital one. Fluor has a track record of
consistently delivering results at Fernald, Hanford and now at Savannah
River. Our management team understands how the scope of the contract has
changed with the addition of over a billion dollars in environmental
management funds from the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act funding
and an accelerated performance period which requires greater corporate
resources,” said Hopkins.
In detailing the leadership announcement, Bruce Stanski, president of
Fluor’s Government Group said, “I know that Garry Flowers is the right
person to lead the team through the next phase of work at the Site.
Garry's experience supervising labor relations, craft resources and
safety will enable the SRNS team to tap into Fluor’s resources globally.
We feel strongly that this change demonstrates Fluor’s and SRNS’s
commitment to provide the necessary corporate reach back to achieve the
level of success that the National Nuclear Security Administration and
Environmental Management organizations within DOE expects of our team,”
said Stanski.
Flowers is a long-time Fluor executive and spent many years at the
company’s Greenville, S.C. location. In his previous role, Flowers had
worldwide responsibility for the support of Fluor’s field construction
programs, all company labor relations matters, and for the security of
its 42,000 employees, property, and information. Flowers served as the
functional liaison with U.S. Government officials, security directors of
other multi-national companies, outside specialists, and consultants to
